| Samba music opens new concert series
A SERIES of concerts entitled Hinchingbrooke Spring Music opens on Friday (February 2) with a performance from an acclaimed Brazilian folk band. Nois 4 is led by singer Monica Vasconcelos who is supported by a saxophone, acoustic guitar and drums. The group play traditional Brazilian folk music alongside samba, bossa nova and gentle jazz. Sung in Portuguese and introduced in English, each poetic song Nois 4 play is distinctive exploring different aspects of irresistible Brazilian rhythms.Monica learnt her vocal and songwriting in Sao Paulo where she was born. She has performed at world class venues including The Barbican and major international music festivals and has supported Brian Ferry on tour. INFORMATION: The concert, which is being held at Hinchingbrooke Performing Arts Centre in Huntingdon starts at 7.30pm.

Carnival is back with more Brazilian beats
Brazilian bar Guanabara is promising to bring some much-needed music and happiness into our lives with the return of its six-day Carnival. DJ Limo prepares for the party with a warm-up session on Wednesday 14 February, complete with a six-piece live band and samba lessons, and Paraiso School of Samba continues the preamble at The Scream Of Carnival on Thursday. The carnival itself kicks off on Friday with a launch party hosted by DJ Russ Jones and features a 28-piece bateria and sparkly dancers of the London School of Samba. There'll be a masked ball on Saturday, followed by a special carnival set from Zeu Azevedo and banda Forrodaqui on Sunday and a Dancehall Carnival for the grand finale on Monday 19 February.
